This week is the second issue to include High School Game Time and I hope you are enjoying getting the sports coverage in your neighborsgo section. I look forward to getting more photos and stories about McKinney and our great sporting teams in the area. If you’re a McKinney sports fan show us your stuff by taking a few photos and writing a story about the most recent game or your favorite team and post it to HSGameTime.com/dfw. From there we can get it into our publication the following week, as long as you post it the weekend of the game you’ll be able to see your photos and story in neighborsgo.

This week students from McKinneyNorthHigh School sent us photos from their Homecoming game, which they won with a score of 23-20. The game rundown is an exciting read. North pulled out the win with a field goal in over time. Be sure to turn to page 20 and see one of your local schools in action.

This  week neighborsgo is also beginning a new feature called “Know Your Neighbor”. This feature gives our readers insight to the lives of some of our best contributors. You can learn more about their interests, experiences and views on a number of topics.

For our first “Know Your Neighbor” we connected with our gardening columnist Joy Bradford. She shared with us her love of travel, writing and volunteering. She also has a passion for gardening, which is evident in all her gardening columns.

If you know an interesting McKinney resident, contact us with their information so we can feature them as our next neighbor.

This week is our third and final back-to-school issue for this year and we have included a variety of information in the past three issues for those of you who are headed back to school.

We’ve published all the schools’ football schedules for those McKinney football fans and even have a letter from  Superintendent Tom  Crowe this week. He is looking forward to a great school year and so are we.

Last year teachers, PTO and PTA moms gave us a glimpse into the lives many of us working parents don’t get to see. We saw bike rallies, special presentations and learned about some of the special visitors our children experienced.

This year we are looking for some more of that great content and we are kicking off the year with a live blog on the first day of school. This is where you can get involved and find out just how easy it is to be a part of the neighborsgo.com community.

When you get the kids ready for school, take a few photos and post them to our Web site along with your thoughts about the morning. Was it organized? Was their any first-day-of-school jitters? Did you experience any separation anxiety moments? Let us know.

Then you can log on to neighborsgoblog.dallasnews.com and find out what’s happening with other parents and what they are experiencing. The live back-to-school blog was something we started last year and it was very fun for everyone involved.

I strongly encourage you to register as a user today so you’ll be ready on Monday to post your story and photos online. I plan to share my thoughts and experiences about sending my oldest daughter to McKinneyHigh School for the first time.

Once the school year gets in full swing we will be looking for more photos and stories about what our youth is doing. So anytime you attend a school event, take your camera and then post your photos to neighborsgo.com and you may see it published in our weekly print edition.

My parents raised me to be humble about my accomplishments. They wanted me to take an “aw shucks” attitude toward success and stardom.

Since embarking upon my journey toward adulthood, I think I have sufficiently failed at the concept of humility, and it takes some embarrassment to put me back on that level.

With the power of the Internet, one of my first videos on neighborsgo.com, starring gold medal Senior Olympic table tennis player May Day, has garnered almost 500 hits – a number equal to amount of times Mary clobbered me with her forehand.

I figured getting bullied by a 76-year-old was enough, but two weeks after Mary made the Web site, my ego was again put in check.

This time, Jack Foltyn, a Graceland-approved Elvis tribute artist, had fun smearing my face with makeup and trying to make me look like a young Elvis. As much as I would love to resemble the King, the weeks spent growing my sideburns went to waste when I ended up looking more like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Speaking of Foltyn, it’s time for a plug about National Elvis Week. This week, honor Elvis by taking an afternoon to go for a ride on the Harley or by throwing on the leathers and wooing your special lady with a guitar serenade to pay tribute to Graceland’s golden child. You can see Foltyn’s solo show, Just Jack live at Plano’s Cox Building Playhouse.

Admittedly, these videos have been making me feel somewhat like a celebrity, and the increasing views make my ego and head swell to an extent, but I don’t want to take the spotlight from you, the readers and communities who make my work possible.

I want to see more video content from you online at neighborsgo.com. Right now, students from Berkner High School in Richardson who are in the band Story 48 have gotten the hang of posting to neighborsgo.com. See them for yourself at neighborsgo.com/video/1063.

Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks as Angela Chambers and I take a trip to the frontier when we visit the Heritage Farmstead Museum and try our hand at life as settlers in the 1800s. Real-life Oregon Trail, here we come.

As always, feel free to send me challenges on my blog or neighborsgo Web site. If you think something would make a cool video, don’t shy away from letting me know.

Todaysneighborsgo is the first of three consecutive editions for McKinney featuring back-to-school content, including commentary, news, helpful information and photos, in addition to our regular community content.

We will have additional back-to-school content in the Aug. 16 and Aug. 23 editions, which we hope will help you and your kids get started on the right foot.

Of course, we also look forward to the stories and photos you, our readers, post at neighborsgo.com about the run-up to the first day of school, the hustle and bustle on the big day itself, and for the entire school year.

Registering and posting at the site are easy and free, so there is really no reason for your kids, their teachers and your schools’ activities not to get coverage in print all year long.

As one Far North Dallas mother and first-time neighborsgo.com poster said to us just a few days agoL

I hadn’t tried posting to the Web site because I thought it would be hard to do. But it isn’t hard at all. It’s easy! You have a great site.

So, neighbors, GO!
