Time is running out on Marble, the handsome Gordon Setter crossbreed, who has entered his ninth month of captivity at the Rockwall Animal Adoption Center.  He was first featured here on neighborsgo in February.

Marble, who was named for his piercing eyes, is a playful three-year-old neutered male who’s as smart as a whip and walks like a charm on a leash.  I’m completely baffled as to why no one seems to want him.  As playful as he is, I’m afraid his spirit is beginning to sag.  As Chris Valentine, the supervisor of the Rockwall Animal Services department told me, “It’s borderline animal cruelty to keep him in this environment for this long.”

This loving dog desperately needs a new home.  Find out more about Marble here.

The Dallas Morning News has an interesting story about the fate of Jenny the Elephant. She’s been a fixture at the Dallas Zoo for the past 22 years. Animal rights groups are teaming up against the Dallas Zoo, which plans to send the elephant to a Mexican Zoo.

Also, columnist Steve Blow has his take about Councilwoman Angela Hunt stepping into the controversy.

Our friends at the Dallas Morning News had a metro centerpiece today about Penny, a young hound mix and Nemo the beagle, who are on the cover of this month’s edition of Bark Magazine.

Penny was found in a ditch with a broken pelvis, had a scar from a bullet wound and several other maladies. Fast forward to today and she’s the epitome of a happy dog.

Last week, I visited Scott Farrow and his loveable pooch Molly. Scott, an East Dallas resident is part of an SPCA program called Compassion Connection that sends dogs into Medical City Children’s Hospital to visit sick children. If anyone doubts the healing powers of pets, all it takes is watching the children’s faces at the hospital light up when Molly, Brownie and the other dogs visit. You can see a video of my trip to the hospital to visit the children with Scott and Molly here

Uzo (pronounced Oozoh) was born around January of 2007. He is a gorgeous pit bull terrier mix with a soft, bone-white coat accented by a few freckles.

He loves other people and dogs, and has not shown any aggression towards cats. He also loves to give kisses.

He has not had any formal training as of yet, but he has a good disposition, and luckily he doesn’t jump on people.

He rides well in the car, and has also done well with his crate training, but is still working on leash training.

He is in excellent health, other than having heartworms. ADOPT A DALLAS PET is currently accepting donations for his HW treatment, which he cannot start until we have raised the money. We have received three estimates that range between $225 - $500. After his HW treatment, he will need to be microchipped and neutered.

If you would like to help Uzo by making a donation towards his care, please email us at adoptadallaspet@yahoo.com or call 214.521.3611 (Evenings) or 214.580.7132 (Day) to discuss donation options.

AADP cannot continue to help dogs like Uzo without your continued financial assistance. You can also email us if you would like to receive a flyer for Uzo that you can post at work or school.

If you believe you can provide the perfect home for Uzo, we are excepting applications on him with the understanding that he will probably not be available until August 2008. Contact us today if you’d like to meet Uzo, or have an application emailed to you.
