The wheelchairs have been designed for various terrains and needs so they can be used in homes, on paved sidewalks or on rough roads with potholes. World-wide, an estimated 60 million people who need wheelchairs do not have one.

What happens when FBC McKinney leaves the building? We are about to find out! On April 26 & 27, our entire First Baptist McKinney and First McKinney North families will literally “leave the building” and worship the Lord through service within the community! Instead of going to church, we are going to be the church. Our focus in April is Transform Your World. We are seeking to discover the forgotten mission of Jesus and begin to look at the Church and our world in brand new ways. Families will go in to the community on both Saturday and Sunday and minister to hundreds right here in Collin County! Interested in getting involved? Please visit www.transformingyourworld.org today or call the church office at 972-542-0041. Remember we will not have worship services on our campuses on Sunday, April 27! Mon 28 Apr 2008 6:30 PM Pants That Fit Workshop
Do you have trouble finding or making pants that fit? Would you like help with solving this problem? Come and join us in this great workshop on how to fit pants — not to be confused with “jeans” which have their own set of rules. You will learn the basics of altering a pants pattern to your individual needs. You will construct a basic pair of pants in class to test and refine alterations in fabric. This is a hands-on class; the information will build upon itself and will require some work to be done outside of the classroom before the following week’s class. You must bring to class your own sewing machine, which should be in good working order, and an extension cord. You should already know how to thread and operate it. The instructor will call with an additional supply list to bring with you to class. Visit www.communityedclasses.org or call 972-882-5277 to register or get more information.

What is amazing is – she is profoundly deaf.... Take advantage of this opportunity to hear one of the most amazing percussionists of our time! In 1993 Evelyn was awarded the OBE (Officer of the British Empire). This was extended this year to 'Dame Commander' for her services to music, and to date has received approximately 80 international awards. For more information about Dame Evelyn, see drumsnotguns.org

Sat 10 May 2008 7:00 PM Art Exhibition
“Between the Line | s |” is a new exhibition of paintings by McKinney-based artist Laura Moore. The collection of twenty works on paper provides an interesting mix of images reminiscent of labyrinths, tattoos and jigsaw puzzles. The images begin in a variety of ways, such as screen prints, etchings, photography-based gum transfers, and watercolors. Each image is altered with one continuous line that forms unique surface patterns. The line provides a meditative means for consideration of emotional transportation into the image. The exhibit opening is part of historic downtown McKinney’s 2nd Saturday Art Walk. Opening Reception: Saturday, May 10th 7-10pm, with wine, music, appetizers and fine art. Mon 12 May 2008 7:00 PM 20th Anniversary Celebration Dance
Farmers Branch began dancing for senior citizens when senior centers were scarcely known. On May 12, 2008, the "branch" will celebrate twenty successful years during which Buford & Corina Watson will be honored for their leadership along the way. The dances began with a small group of people dancing to recorded music on a small tile covered floor and now enjoy a new senior center with a beautiful 5000 sq ft ballroom that can accommodate almost 300 seniors. Live music is now provided by a variety of top-notch bands. Dances are every Monday (except when the center is closed for holidays). It's a rare Monday when fewer than 200 friendly folks gather for fun, exercise & excitement. Join us as we celebrate this joyous occasion and every Monday thereafter (admission is $5 with free refreshments).

Fri 16 May 2008 8:00 AM Holy Trinity Garage Sale
The women’s group at Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church in Heath is excited about our upcoming parish-wide “garage sale” to be held on May 16 and 17. It will be a fundraiser for our many ministries and programs and we thought your congregation might be interested in taking advantage. Our 2007 event was an outstanding success with many quality donations wonderfully organized and displayed for sale. Not were customers from all over Dallas pleased to acquire many great bargains, but so was Austin Street Homeless Shelter, to whom we donated all unsold goods afterwards. As before, our goods are of outstanding quality, some of which are new or barely used, but priced to sell. There will be incredible items donated by our parishioners, as well as items that are not being used by our church or day school that is now closed. If it is appropriate, we hope you will either post the enclosed flyer on your message board or copy it for insertion in your service bulletin. More

Thu 22 May 2008 6:00 PM Wines Across America
Join us as we discover wines from across America! “Varietals -- wines made entirely or mostly from the single grape variety named on the front label -- are the most prominent type of American wine. Most of the great American wines are varietals, and a growing number of wines made from Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir are challenging their European models on sheer quality. Traditionally, the best buys are generic wines, those that used to be labeled "Chablis" or "Burgundy" but now are more often simply called table wine. One of the hottest US wines is Zinfandel, which in the 1990s came into its own as a profoundly distinctive red wine. There is no European counterpart.”—Wine Spectator

EYES ON EARTH Opens May 23 through Sept. 1 Far beyond the atmosphere of Earth, at orbits ranging from 180 to over 22,000 miles above sea level, circle the satellites of the Earth Observing System (EOS), NASA’s primary satellite mission. This small group of man-made scientific observers is constantly scanning our planet--tracking weather, monitoring pollution, creating maps, and gathering information that helps scientists predict storms, monitor forest fires, and study the holes in the ozone layer. EYES ON EARTH is a new, highly interactive science exhibition that focuses on the EOS and examines how satellite observations are made and what we can learn about the Earth using space technology. Designed primarily for families and school groups (upper elementary through adults), visitors learn what a satellite is, discover the different types of orbits, and explore cutting-edge technology similar to that used by EOS scientists.
