Buddha's Birthday Celebration and Culture Fes
IBPS and BLIA are co-organizing a special event on May 11th, 2008. We are celebrating Buddha's Birthday and hosting a Culture Festival. From 10am to 11:00am we will command an Interfaith Prayer for World Peace Service following is the "Bathing the Buddha" ceremony which to wash ourselves with greed, hatred and ignorance and pray for peace in our society, end violence and direct human kind to right path. After the service, at 11am to 2pm there will be Culture festival where close to 40 booths of international food, games, culture booths, traditional pop toys, and entertainment(drumming group from LA will be performing, celestial dances...etc) fun for all ages. 20th Anniversary Celebration Dance
Farmers Branch began dancing for senior citizens when senior centers were scarcely known. On May 12, 2008, the "branch" will celebrate twenty successful years during which Buford & Corina Watson will be honored for their leadership along the way. The dances began with a small group of people dancing to recorded music on a small tile covered floor and now enjoy a new senior center with a beautiful 5000 sq ft ballroom that can accommodate almost 300 seniors. Live music is now provided by a variety of top-notch bands. Dances are every Monday (except when the center is closed for holidays). It's a rare Monday when fewer than 200 friendly folks gather for fun, exercise & excitement. International Baccalaureate & Gifted Kids
The Coppell Gifted Association is pleased to present Karen Phillips, Executive Director, Texas IB Schools, for an informative session about the International Baccalaureate Programme and the gifted student. This session provides a K-12 continuum for the International Baccalaureate and how these programs offer a framework design suitable for gifted children. An overview of all three programs (Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma) will be given, with specific examples of how they meet the learning needs of gifted students.
Karen Phillips began her International Baccalaureate experience in 1995 as IB Coordinator for the Round Rock Independent School District and served in that capacity through 2002. In January of 2004, she became the Executive Director for Texas IB Schools. Her first experience in assisting schools with the application process occurred during the 1998-1999 school year. The winning logo will be used on all promotional materials and your the winners artistic talents will be seen by hundreds of people!
The logo will be reviewed by a panel of judges on overall impression, creativity, originality, aesthetics, use of scase and color.

Frisco Community Band Spring Concert
The Frisco Community Band will be performing its spring concert on Tuesday, May 13th in the auditorium of Wakeland High School, located at 10700 Legacy Drive in Frisco. The concert, which will begin at 7:00 p.m., will first feature the All-City Choir. The Frisco Community Band will take the stage at 7:30.

LISD Special Ed. PTSA Meeting and Program
The last Regular Meeting for the LISD Special Ed. PTSA will be held Thursday, May 15th at the Student Services Building located at 400 West Main in Lewisville. At 6:00 pm there will be refreshments and the Regular Meeting at 6:30. In addition to the meeting will be the 2008-09 Officer Installations. Starting promptly at 7:00 pm will be the Parent Panel.
The Parent Panel will be a time for “new” parents of children with special needs to come and ask questions or share conversation with veteran parents of children with special needs.
We are still looking for “seasoned” parents of children of all ages and disabilities (elementary, middle and high school, and beyond) to volunteer to be on the panel.

Holy Trinity Garage Sale
The women’s group at Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church in Heath is excited about our upcoming parish-wide “garage sale” to be held on May 16 and 17. It will be a fundraiser for our many ministries and programs and we thought your congregation might be interested in taking advantage. Our 2007 event was an outstanding success with many quality donations wonderfully organized and displayed for sale. Not were customers from all over Dallas pleased to acquire many great bargains, but so was Austin Street Homeless Shelter, to whom we donated all unsold goods afterwards.
As before, our goods are of outstanding quality, some of which are new or barely used, but priced to sell. There will be incredible items donated by our parishioners, as well as items that are not being used by our church or day school that is now closed. Guitar Hero 24-Hour Marathon Challenge

The Irving Elk’s Lodge will host the 29th annual Top of Texas chili cookoff and related activities Saturday, May 17th. The cook-off will benefit Elk’s sponsored charitable programs. The cook-off will be conducted under CASI rules (Chili Appreciation Society of America). The public is invited to attend cook, learn more about cooking chili forcharity, view the cooking booths, and help judge the entries. Feral Friends began kitten and cat adoptions at PetSmart in Rockwall located at 931 E. Interstate 30 where Feral Friends will have adoptions every Saturday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
At Feral Friends, our mission is to provide assistance to feral cats to ensure they have an opportunity for a safe, healthy existence and be the link to permanent, loving homes for the domesticated cats we rescue.
To accomplish this mission, we have three, vital programs that work in unison to offer assistance to the cats and kittens of our community, Race to Reduce Litters (feral), Rescue and ReHome (Adoption) and Lost Cat Recovery.

WHAT: In an effort to help reduce these high safety risks, MANA, a National Latina Organization is deovting one full day of its 2008 National Conference to host a Free Family Safety Day event for the community of the Dallas Metroplex area. The organization is partnering with State Farm Insurance, the leading car insurer in Texas to teach families how to properly secure car seats, booster seats and seat belts. State Farm representatives will be available to conduct child safety and booster seat inspections. In addition, representatives from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be assisting with free finger print ID’s for children.
