Community Choir Rehearsal
The Balch Springs community choir seeks to inspire a sense of community through music within the city of Balch Springs and the surrounding area. The choir is open to ages 15 & up. Take Me Home Pet Rescue, Inc. is a Richardson based rescue group that rescues dogs and cats from local shelters. The pet is put in foster care and medical treatment is provided as they are often ill. The pet is then spayed or neutered and placed in a loving home.

Sounds of Lewisville Summer Concert
Eight top regional acts have been scheduled for the “Sounds of Lewisville” Summer Concert Series, presented for the 19th consecutive year by the City of Lewisville.
The free concerts will be held on Tuesday nights, from June 3 through July 22, starting at 7:00 p.m. This year’s series is moving to Old Town Lewisville, adjacent to Lewisville City Hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Alcohol is prohibited at the concert series.
Series organizers also announced that Tyler Dow Bryant was voted the winner of the People’s Choice Award for the 2007 series. His band will open the summer concert series this year on June 3.

DPC Summer Dinner Lecture Series Part 1
After four years of highly successful Summer Dinner Lectures, the Dallas Peace Center has expanded their concept to bring three exhilarating speakers to Dallas throughout the summer months.
The first speaker, Rita Marie Johnson, founder of the Academy for Peace of Costa Rica, will deliver “A Nation’s Peace Story” on June 4 at FunAsia, 1210 E. Beltline Rd., Richardson. Dinner will be at 6:30 and the lecture at 7:30 p.m.
In 2002, Johnson founded the Academy for Peace of Costa Rica (APCR) in 2003 with the aim of citizens passing peaceful skills from generation to generation.
Dinner-goers may buy tickets for one dinner lecture, or for the whole series: A table for 10 for the series is $1,500, and tickets for two for the series are $750. Tickets for one dinner lecture are $500 for a table for 10, $200 for a couple and $75 for an individual ticket.

Teen Camp
The Teen Camp program is a TRAPS 2007 award winner and is offered to youth ages 13-18 years. This is a life preperation program to help teens develop skills and assets that are important to growing up healthy, principled and caring. Particpants will spend half of their day gaining knowledge through hands on projects, field trips and listening to guest speakkers. The remainder of the day will be spent working with the children in Camp Do-It-All gaining valuable experience. Teen camp participants will go on field trips of their won as well as some with Camp Do-It-All. Camps will be held at Denton Creek and Cottonwood Creek Elementary in Coppell. Camp Do-It-All
Camp Do-it-All is an award winning summer day camp program for children ages 6-12 years. Camp dates are June 9- August 22. Activities include outdoor and indoor sports, borad games, crafts, swimming and don't forget those excellent field trips! Hours are Monday-Friday 7am- 6:30pm, except for the July 4th Holiday, Camp will be closed in Obervation. Camp is staffed with op-notch counselors ranging from school teachers to college students. Your child's saftey is very important to us and we will take it in stride. All staff members have advanced training in child care, first aid and CPR. Counselors undergo drug testing and criminal background checks prior to employment. Camp T-shirts are required to be worn everyday. TCHS Cheer Taste Test Fundraiser
The TCHS Cheerleaders are hosting a Taste Test Fundraiser at Morningside Elementary School on June 11th from 10:50am to 3:50pm. Participants between the ages of 13 - 17 years old will need to fill out a permission form prior to taste testing. Participants are needed between the ages of 13-65. The cheerleaders will earn money with each person participating. The participants attending will be able to taste test different kinds of snacks such as chips, cookies, etc. at no cost to them! Paul Green School of Rock Music Grand Opening
The Paul Green School of Rock continues its ongoing mission of "saving rock n roll one kid at a time" with its first Dallas branch opening, located in the Park Cities area at 5606 Dyer. KidSwing is a best-ball scramble for novice to competitive golfers ages 7 to 18. Sounds of Lewisville Summer Concert Series
Eight top regional acts have been scheduled for the “Sounds of Lewisville” Summer Concert Series, presented for the 19th consecutive year by the City of Lewisville.
The free concerts will be held on Tuesday nights, from June 3 through July 22, starting at 7:00 p.m. This year’s series is moving to Old Town Lewisville, adjacent to Lewisville City Hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Alcohol is prohibited at the concert series.

Hike for Discovery Kick Off - White Rock Lake
How do you go from strolling the hills around White Rock Lake to hiking the highest peaks of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park? One White Rock resident has found the answer: Hike for Discovery!
Hike For Discovery is a hiking and fundraising program for people who love to be in the great outdoors and want to help people battling cancer. The program is organized by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which many people around our neighborhood know for their Team in Training events.
Joe Dann is a Hike for Discovery participant and Team Captain for a training season that kicks off next week at White Rock Lake. “I walk three miles or more almost every day at White Rock and love it, but I was looking for a way to take it up a notch. That’s when I found Hike for Discovery”. Last January, Dann joined the group and has trained all spring for a hike event at Yosemite National Park. He is returning just in time for the new season kick off.

National Hot Dog Eating Competition - Qualifi
Come out and cheer on top eaters from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, as Sam's Club hosts the Dallas-area qualifying round of the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Competition. Last year's finale, from Coney Island, attracted more than 1.5 million viewers on ESPN.
The winner of each qualifying round will compete at the original Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island July 4th for the coveted “Mustard Yellow Belt.” Both members and guests are welcome to cheer on registered contestants as they vie for a space at the big table.
Additionally, the day’s events will include:
• $1 Nathan’s Hot Dog & Coca-Cola® special in the Sam’s Club cafes
• “Neat Eater” contest for children under 12

Police & Firefighters Appreciation Day

Sounds of Lewisville Summer Concert Series
Eight top regional acts have been scheduled for the “Sounds of Lewisville” Summer Concert Series, presented for the 19th consecutive year by the City of Lewisville.

Many political commentators draw similarities between the Vietnam War and the current Iraq War. The Cold War ~ The War on Terror. The Soviet Union ~ al Qaeda. Ho Chi Minh ~ Saddam Hussein.
These are specters that the government props up as legitimate reasons to pre-emptively invade another country. However, there is one big difference between the illegitimate war of this generation, and the former illegal war: THE DRAFT.
How has the military avoided a draft? One way is by the privatization of the military. Companies like Blackwater are legalized paramilitary troops - killers for hire. And why join the army when you can make beaucoup bucks with private corporations - with more benefits and less oversight?
Jeremy Scahill investigates these and other issues in his book, "Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army." The Dallas Peace Center is hosting a talk and booksigning with the author later this month. | Half Price Books
