Free School Physicals
Dr. Sharon Kirven, MD is offering free school physicals to the public on Saturday August 23rd at her Mesquite office from 9 am to 2 pm. But there is a catch. While there is no charge for screening exams for kids returning to school, students are highly encouraged to bring canned and dry goods that will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank. This 'Student Athlete Appreciation Event' was developed as a means to promote a sense of giving and philanthropy in these tough economic times.Dr. Kirven is board certified in family medicine and has practiced in the area for the last 11 years. On Monday, August 25 the Preston Hollow Early Childhood PTA will kick off the year with “things to do with your kids” speaker Lynda Morley. "Adventures Around Dallas" is her theme and she will share her discoveries of fun activities for families to do with their little ones about town - on rainy and sunny days. A Texas resident for 24 years, she released her fifth edition of Outings and Adventures Everywhere in 2006.
Each monthly meeting is open to new members. The group warmly welcomes those who are new to the neighborhood—or to parenthood—to come and get acquainted.
The PHECPTA is open to parents of children 0-5 in or around the Preston Hollow neighborhood. On Sunday Afternoon august 31 St. Stephen's Presbyterian church will host a book signing for Carolyn Hunt Watson. Her book, " The Smell of Love", is about struggling with God's choices. The skunk character is not happy with the gift given to him.
The child's book comes with an audio download of the author reading the book. It is a fun read for parent's to share with young children as well as a book certain to entertain older children.

Rockwall Preschool Association kicks off its 23rd year serving moms and their preschool aged children, birth through kindergarten. Meetings are held the first Friday of the month, and childcare is available with reservation. Park Cities 7th Grade Parent Coffee for Celeb
Celebration 7 will hold its annual Parent Coffee on Friday, September 5th from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the home of Angela Bowman, 3104 Caruth Boulevard, 75225. All parents of 7th graders living in the Park Cities are welcome to attend the coffee. Celebration 7 is an organization founded in 1985 by parents who wanted to provide age-appropriate chaperoned activities for 7th grade students living in the Park Cities. Celebration 7 hosts three events during the school year designed to offer fun experiences and the chance to make new friends in a relaxed social environment. Texas ZestFest 2008
Local celebrity chefs Jon Bonnell, Lou Lambert, Grady Spears, Bill Wavrin and John Garcia to name a few, will be wowing crowds during their live cooking demonstrations at Texas ZestFest 2008 this September. Promising to make this its hottest food festival and competition yet, Texas ZestFest 2008 has joined with the Tarrant Area Food Bank as its charity beneficiary.
Texas ZestFest 2008, hosted by Chile Pepper magazine, the leader on all things hot and spicy, is a 3-day food competition and festival held annually for the zesty food industry. Over 15,000 fiery food lovers are expected to attend the Will Roger's Memorial Center and sample bold and flavorful products from around the country. The main stage will feature live cooking demonstrations from local celebrity chefs as well as live entertainment by local musicians.
