Frederick Clay Bartlett: Post-Impressionism
(Lecture 2 of 2)
In honor of The Impressionists: Master Paintings from the Art Institute of Chicago exhibition currently at the Kimbell in Fort Worth, Dr. Brettell will give two public lectures on private collectors of French avant-garde painting at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 7 and 14, in the Davidson Auditorium at the UT Dallas School of Management.
Although the second lecture is titled Frederick Clay Bartlett: Post-Impressionism and Modern Art in the 1920’s, it is really about two important art patrons: Clay and Martin Ryerson. Bartlett’s private collection was given to The Art Institute of Chicago in 1926 and included major paintings by Cezanne, van Gogh, Seurat, Gauguin, Picasso, Hodler and Matisse. Ryerson’s gift in 1933, however, is said to be the most important in the museum’s history because of the range of important artists and historical periods represented, from Impressionists to Old Master paintings. | School of Management, UT Dallas

PLANO, TEXAS, SEPTEMBER 10, 2008: The Plano Chapter of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold its regular monthly meeting on October 14, 2008, at Tino’s Mexican Restaurant, located in the Collin Creek Mall, in Plano, Texas. The meeting, which is open to the public, will start at 7 PM and is preceded by a social gathering which starts at 6 PM.
The program for the meeting this month will highlight awards given to members of the Plano Police and Fire Departments for their outstanding service to the community during the past year. Honorees will be awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal with certificate, the Fire Safety Commendation Medal with certificate, the Emergency Medical Services Commendation Medal with certificate, and the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal with certificate.

An American in Paris
The performance will feature An American in Paris, a symphonic composition by American composer George Gershwin, composed in 1928. Inspired by time Gershwin had spent in Paris, it is in the form of an extended tone poem evoking the sights and energy of the French capital in the 1920s. It is one of Gershwin's best-known compositions. Other selections will include Offenbach’s Overture to La Vie Parisienne, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Daira Rabotkina performing Ravel’s Piano concerto in G.

Royal Air Force in Texas Reunion Dinner and Fly-In Pancake Breakfast
In honor of the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force, Number 1 British Flying Training School Museum is hosting a Dinner-Dance and Fly-In on Friday, October 17 & 18, 2008 to honor the British pilots who trained in the United States, and the American officers and civilian staff who assisted with that training. The event also welcomes the “War Brides” and the citizens who embraced the service members while they were training in the US. Elizabeth Handley Memorial Marrow Donor Drive
Join us on Oct. 19, 9 am to 2 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Flower Mound to register for the National Marrow Donor Program and/or give blood to help save a life! The marrow registry is free and painless-just a cheek swab initially. You may be the missing piece a family is searching for to save their loved one. This drive is in memory of Elizabeth Handley and in honor of Doug Campbell, a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patient for the past 8 years who needs a marrow transplant to survive his incurable cancer. What is Pony Club? Pony Club is a fun play group sponsored by the Moss Haven PTA for neighborhood preschoolers ages 3-5 and their parents.

Fall Concert
Frisco Jazz, the community jazz band of Frisco, will perform it's Fall Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 19 at Liberty High School Auditorium.
The free concert will include big band jazz standards from the 1940's and 1950's, arrangements of popular contemporary favorites, and performances from vocalist Donna Brinlee.
Frisco Jazz is sponsored by the Frisco Association for the Arts and the Fall Concert is free to attend. Liberty Auditorium is located at 15250 Rolater Road in Frisco.

National Tea Party Day!

Each location will have free cookies, petit fours and tea, and all donations from this day will go directly to Kidd’s Kids. Everyone is encouraged to stop by their local Celebrity Café & Bakery 2 – 5 p.m. for a big, fancy afternoon tea party!
