The Orchestra of New Spain returns to the Meadows Museum to perform The Soldier's Tale, 1918 (for chamber orchestra, narrators, and dance) in conjunction with the exhibition "Diego Rivera: The Cubist Portraits, 1913-1917". Just as the cubists deconstructed the historic narrative role of painting by exploring the many forms that make up visual art, Igor Stravinsky saw past the obligatory steadiness of fixed meter to break musical expression down into the changing pulsations of real life. Tickets: General Admission - $25; Students with ID - $10; ONS Subscribers, Museum and KERA Members - $20. Purchase online at www.OrchestraofNewSpain.org or by calling (214)750-1492. Thu 16 Jul 2009 8:00 PM UNNECESSARY FARCE
Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor meets with his female accountant while two undercover cops wait in the room next door to videotape the tryst. But there's some confusion as to who's in which room, who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps running around in her underwear. In the grand tradition of Noises Off, Unnecessary Farce is a side-splitting comedy sure to have you rolling in the aisles with laughter. This is a wickedly original cover band from Austin, TX that performs a fearless cabaret of Solid Gold-era classics from the ‘70s and ‘80s. In a city where original music rules, Skyrocket! dares to mix both, performing forgotten radio hits with a creative cast of some of Austin’s finest career musicians (Trish and Darin Murphy, Johnny Goudie, Benjamin Hotchkiss, and The Real Heroes). Discovering a common craze for the shamelessly dated but well-crafted songs of the AM-radio “solid gold” era, seven well-known musicians and songwriters united spontaneously in 2004 to form Skyrocket! What started as a lark soon caught on with music lovers and music critics alike. Michael

Mon 20 Jul 2009 9:30 AM Creek Camp III
Each day we spend about an hour walking the creek, discovering inhabitants which include tadpoles, frogs, turtles, crawfish, minnows, fish and yes, snakes. We also uncover fossils and pick up trash along the way. Each day offers a different craft from tie dying their own camp T-shirt to making snakes, candles, compasses, and painting rocks. Some of our out of the creek activities have included washing clothes as life would have allowed at the turn of the century, bucket brigade races and even a water gun shoot out at the “OK Corral.” We have even managed to sneak in a little education as we discuss how water usage on the farm has changed over the past 100 years. On Friday of Creek Camp the campers are entertained by their counselors with skits and each receive a special certificate recognizing their contributions to the week’s adventure

Tue 21 Jul 2009 7:00 PM Homeowners Options in the Current Real Estate
The Lewisville Public Library will host a program on “Homeowners Options in the Current Real Estate Market” on Tuesday, July 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the Small Conference Room. The program will be presented by Lucille Del Vecchio, a local real estate broker and Texas Real Estate Instructor. Due to declining values and other reasons, the real estate market has literally turned upside down with some homeowners owing more on their homes than what those homes are worth. This has caused an incredible amount of financial stress and heartache for a tremendous number of families in our area. Nationally on average over 70% of homeowners who lose their home to foreclosure don’t appear to have done anything proactive to resolve their situation. These distressed homeowners are confronted with the agonizing decision of how they should proceed. “Homeowners Options in the Current Real Estate Market” will focus on strategies for homeowners on how they might avoid foreclosure.

Teaching during this last year at Collin County Community College, Profession Ziman has organized a thought provoking exhibition of work done by her Drawing II students. Each student was employed to create a series of work that went beyond the typical “realistic” reality. Exploring a contemporary approach to art, students begin to develop more than just their ability to draw, but their ability to inspire, influence, and define their reality. Student's work ranges from abstract to realism with a twist. Kristin Flores enlarged several parts of DeKooning's work creating beautiful suggestions of a lone house. Tue 28 Jul 2009 7:00 AM Free Monthly Prayer Breakfast
McKinney Christian Academy has graciously invited us to gather at their facility once again for our next breakfast, Tuesday, July 28, 7:00 AM sharp. We will meet in a different building than last month. The address is 3601 Bois d'Arc Rd., Mckinney; this address can be accessed by either N. Jordan (if you're travelling north from Virginia Pkwy.) or White Rd. if you're coming west from 75. Let me know if you need any further help with directions. Our world continues to stagger through its orbit -- the economy, Iran, N. Korea, et al -- and without our fully knowing it, our hearts and spirits are trying to make some sense of it all. Scripture supports this picture when the letter to the Romans, the eighth chapter, says we don't even know how to pray as we ought, but we're assured that the Holy Spirit fills this gap of unawareness. God is in charge. Plan to be there on the 28th to take our concerns and petitions consciously to our great God . . . you know He loves to hear from us!

Follow the yellow brick road all the way to Studio B for “The Wizard of Oz”. This is the classic tale of Dorothy Gale and what happens to her as a tornado whisks her away to the magical land of Oz. When Dorothy teams up with Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Lion and her little dog Toto, they make their way to the Wizard to find what they are seeking. During the performances, Studio B will be holding their annual fundraising raffle with donations from local businesses. Raffle tickets are $1 each and the drawing for winners will be held after the last performance. Raffle tickets will also be on sale for the “Ultimate Twilight Basket” complete with Twilight themed items and a photo shoot with Bella’s red truck-the actual truck used in filming the first Twilight movie. This was generously donated by the Biegert Family. Twilight raffle tickets are $5 for one ticket or $20 for five tickets. Performances are July 31, August 1, 2, and 7, 8 and 9.
