On Saturday, September 6, from 10:00-3:00, the East Dallas Community Garden, 1416 N. Fitzhugh Ave. (near Bryan and Fitzhugh) will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Originally started in 1988 by a coalition of various organizations to serve refugees from Southeast Asia, primarily Laos and Cambodia, it has been sponsored by Gardeners in Community Development since 1996. As one of the oldest community gardens in Dallas, it still thrives as a community garden and vegetable sellling market for not only Southeast Asian gardeners but also those from Burma and Somalia. Please join the gardeners and garden supporters as they honor the past and look forward to the future of this unique model garden project. Tentative plans for the open house include food, garden tours and entertainment.
