The School of Arts & Humanities of the University of Texas at Dallas and the Dallas Goethe Center present a lecture/recital event with Dr. Laurie Shulman and Joan Merriman at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, at the UT Dallas Jonsson Performance Hall. The program includes Franz Liszt’s Der traurige Monch (“The Woeful Monk”) and Erik Satie’s Sports et Divertissments (“Sports and Diversions”). Shulman will introduce the event by explaining the tradition of melodrama and provide additional background about the composers and their music, then serve as pianist for the performance. UT Dallas Professor Rainer Schulte will read the Liszt text in German prior to its performance; Merriman will narrate both pieces in English. Admission is free.
