At the November 21st meeting of the Garland Area Parent Association for Gifted and Talented (GAPAGT), Jennifer Hood will discuss what it means to be “Gifted and ADHD.”This is an increasingly common learning difficulty and parents may wonder how to tell if traits reveal giftedness, a medical condition, or both. Ms. Hood is a GISD parent and teacher who earned her master's degree in gifted education and wrote her thesis on "GT/ ADHD/ Both/ Neither." After many years as a classroom teacher, she is currently a Math Instructional Support Teacher for GISD. The free program will begin with a potluck dinner and book swap at 6:30 pm. Ms. Hood’s presentation starts at 7:15 pm and will conclude with an opportunity to discuss with other parents the subject of labels such as ADHD, dyslexia, or being gifted in general. Child care is available with advance reservations for school-age children. To make a reservation, contact Diana Cooley at dcooley@gapagt.org by 11/20/08.
