Ever since I can remember, I’ve excelled at spelling, grammar and punctuation where others have not. Yes, I am fatefully right-brained. That’s why, a long six months after graduation, I was so excited to join the neighborsgo team. Now, I realize that this job may not be a dream to some, but for me, it truly is. I enjoy finding out what’s happening in the community, visiting with contributors, and connecting with communities with which I probably never would have. And sometimes, my co-workers even let me edit a little here and there.
Well, another week has passed, but I can honestly say it’s been pretty out of the ordinary. Jodi was in and out of the office at meetings and lunches, leaving me to do most of the editing for this issue. Please don’t hear me the wrong way; I am not complaining. This is my passion, and I was ecstatic for the opportunity. I’ve been told by many that it takes a special person to enjoy editing. And by special, I’m positive that they meant strange.
Nevertheless, I’m here doing just that, and I’m enjoying it immensely. In fact, I hope I’m only getting my feet wet. I’m looking forward to meeting you all and attending your events in the near future. Neighborsgo is all about connecting, and after seeing it in action, I firmly believe this is the key.
I’ve learned so much in the two months that I’ve been here. Now I know that an editor does much more than just write, edit and use correct punctuation. But we can’t do it alone – without real people in the community who submit stories, neighborsgo would be non-existent. That’s right, YOU make this paper possible!
I know I still have much to learn, but I want to thank you all for helping me grow. It has made all the difference.
Be sure to visit my profile and read my blog at neighborsgo.com/laurenbillman. It will tell you a little more about me and where I came from. Also, I keep it updated so you’ll know what’s going on in my world. I look forward to hearing from you!
