Movie Review-Capitalism: A Love Story

Michael Moore’s latest documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story” is his usual heavy handed, liberal, one sided propaganda. The movie blames Republicans for all of the countries current economic woes. He stretches the truth and paints all Republicans, from Ronald Regan to George W. Bush, as greedy, evil, and uncaring and uses the same broad brush to paint Democrats as saviors riding in on a white horse. I loved it!

The movie focuses on the current financial crisis and the U.S. economic bailout plan. Some of the possible motives for our current financial crisis are frightening. He shows direct links from some of the countries biggest corporations taking over Treasury Department positions in the Bush White House and he uncovers a practice of many large companies (he uses Wal-Mart as an example) of taking out huge life insurance policies on high risk workers, whom they refer to as “dead peasants”.

The movie is what it is. Moore uses humor and sarcasm to shine the light on the injustices which are being forced on many average Americans. He’s pro-worker and anti-corporation through out the film and I’m OK with that. “Capitalism: A Love Story” is a great jumping off point for some discussion on today’s economic woes.

I realize that many Americans do not share Moore’s views. While watching the film I thought of many of my extreme right wing friends whose heads would have actually exploded if they had watched this movie. And that’s OK too.

In “Capitalism: A Love Story” Moore portrays former President Bush as a bumbling, country hick and all of his henchmen, like Dick Cheney, as Darth Vader like evil men. He also gets all warm and fuzzy with his admiration for New Deal Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt. Once again, another reason why I loved the film.

My recommendation is that you check out “Capitalism: A Love Story” and take a Republican with you.
