Paranormal Activity is one of those movies that are being driven by internet hype. The movie was actually shot in 2007 (reportedly for less than $20K). After making the rounds at college campus “the buzz’ caught the attention of Paramount, which is now issuing the film in limited release. The buzz says it’s the scariest movie of all time. The trailer shows audiences reacting in horror as they watch advance screenings. There’s even been talk of movie goers being so frightened that they have soiled themselves!
You can believe the hype! This is one scary movie!
Much like the movie of 10 years ago which it’s being compared to, The Blair Witch Project, all of the things that go bump in the night are pretty mild compared to today’s standards. No blood, no gore, you have to be a willing participant to get wrapped up in the terror. But the long periods of anticipation followed by some really horrific haunting will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The movie focuses on a young couple, Micah and his girlfriend Katie, who are “shacking” in a suburban San Diego home (everybody knows that’s just asking for trouble in a horror film). When things start to jump off in their home Katie is a firm believer that she is being followed by a spirit from her childhood. Micah, who’s not really a believer in the occult (and some what of an a-hole), rounds up some video equipment and a special mic to record hidden voices and he aims the camera on the couple’s bed at night.
Here’s where the rollercoaster ride begins.
The couple starts discovering small things on the video tape when they wake up in the morning. It starts with a door that moves a bit then back and then progresses to some full all out gangster haunting (I don’t want to ruin the scary stuff with too many details).
See for yourself what all the hype is about. Check out Paranormal Activity, but don’t go alone.
