Music institution open to all

For the past 11 years, Coppell Conservatory has been broadening musical horizons in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The institution offers students more than knowledge of playing an instrument—they offer music education.

“It is most important to me that a child learns music,” says Nasr Boukadoum, Coppell Conservatory owner and business manager. “It is critical to have music education.”

Nasr and his wife of 44 years, April, started the institution as a Piano Conservatory whereas now the musical hub is aptly named Coppell Conservatory of Music. Students can take lessons on acoustic piano, keyboards; acoustic, electric or classical guitar; violin, viola, voice and the most recent addition—percussion instruments and flute.

“We started out with five students before opening,” April says. Currently, the facility boasts around 400 students, and in addition to April, there are 16 talented teachers at the institution.

“Working with wonderful teachers is something that is highly appreciated,” Nasr said. “They are dedicated. They do exactly the right thing for the right reasons, and that is to pay attention to the children and give them what they need.”

Nasr came to the Conservatory after working in the petroleum engineering field for 11 years.

“It’s not the economic aspect to me; if it were for the money, I would go back to engineering,” he says. “Service is of primary concern to us.”

For the future, the Boukadoums hope to have their own building for the Conservatory and give back to the community.

“What we intend to add is the aspect of giving back to the community,” Nasr said. “As much as we could possibly give; we want to add an open house where we will educate the interested families [and] anybody who is interested.”

The institution welcomes any person to visit or hold meetings at the facility free of charge including students and nonprofit organizations. Nasr says the Conservatory “is a resource to all of the music industry.”

In addition to their love of music, Nasr’s favorite aspect of the job is the students.

“When you pay attention, 100 percent to that one child,” Nasr says, “that’s by far the greatest satisfaction I get.”
