Irving Safety Fair
This past Saturday was the annual Safety Fair held at Irving Mall.  There were activities for the whole family including a Sing-Along program for the kids and demonstrations put on by the police department and fire department. Police officers were on site at the mall to demonstrate the proper installation of car safety seats and show safety features of several car seats.  Police officers also handed out materials on careers at the police department and on prevention of alcohol related crimes.  The police department's bomb squad also gave demonstrations of their equipment to investigate suspicious packages.
Several participants even got to manuever the police department's bomb robot which is equipped with a camera and is able to puncture car tires.  Heavy equipment was on display in the outside parking lot on the south side of the mall.  The fire department had a firetruck on display and the police department had their ballistic tactical vehicle.  The sergeant of the tactical unit was available to answer questions about the use of the vehicle and all of the special features the vehicle has.  Participants were also allowed to get inside the vehicle and see the view from the vehicle's open hatch.  The police department and fire department provided alot of good information on crime and fire safety.  Information about a career with the Irving Police Department can be found at the department's new recruiting website at:  www.policetexas.org
