Just received an e-mail from a friend I hadn't heard from in a while.
Here's why: He was involved in a texting-related traffic accident.
He had just returned from a two-week mission trip to Uganda.
He was on his way to meet his wife for lunch.
He was stopped at a red light.
His vehicle was rear-ended pretty hard by an 18-year-old under the effect of "intextication."
No wonder everyone - including NPR this morning - is talking about the "texting and driving" PSA on YouTube from across the pond that's gone viral. (Note: The video is graphic and may offend some viewers, so watch it at your discretion. Another note: Every person who's ever texted while driving should watch this.)
The problem is real.
And this note has already accomplished something - even while writing it, I realized that I occasionally text while driving.
That era has come to an end.
