Baylor Garland Auxiliary celebrates 50 years

Baylor Medical Center Garland's volunteer organization, the Baylor Auxiliary, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a a reception in the conference room of the hospital on Oct. 26.

Guests such as Garland Mayor Ron Jones and Baylor Garland president Tom Trenary spoke to the audience of about 120 people.

"They [the Auxiliary] bring a physical, emotional and spiritual side to everything they do here," Trenary said, expressing thanks for the organization.

The Auxiliary had been volunteering time and money to the hospital for five years before Garland Memorial Hospital opened in 1964.

Early projects of the Auxiliary included raising funds for the construction of Memorial and making homemade items to be purchased at the hospital's gift shop.

The volunteer with the most hours of time donated to the hospital is charter member Betsy Weathermon, who has put in 45,549.5 hours in her 45 years of service.
