Video: Retired Marine Col. Forest Lucy says to post

Then and now: Jason Hunt

Jason Hunt was in the military in 2003.

Where is  he today?

In 2003, Faces of the Military was designed "to go beyond the numbers and feature members of the U.S. military, in their own words and images."

Dallasnews.com asked military members, their families and friends to send in photos, comments and greetings to communicate with each other.

And they did.

We received photos and comments from sailors stationed on aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf;  from family members at emotional farewells and homecomings; and from triumphant troops flying the Texas flag in  Baghdad.

One Marine deployed two weeks before the birth of his son was able to see a photo of him - in baby camouflage gear - via Faces of the Military.

In one year, more than 700 photos were uploaded and 1,000 comments were made.

This was before Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and neighborsgo.com.

Now that better "connecting" tools exist online, neighborsgo has relaunched the project.

Not in the same database format (though the photos and some comments remain, most of the links are broken), but as an online conversation with community members that will eventually end up published in one of our 17 print editions.

We want to know what happened to the soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in these 2003 photos. Did they make it back OK? Are they still in the service? If so, where are they? If not, what are they doing as civilians?

If you have information about any of the people featured in this blog - or are one of them yourself - please drop us a line at community@neighborsgo.com or post a story in your own words on neighborsgo.com.

A story doesn't end with the posting of a photo or story, and we're looking forward to picking up the conversation where we left off in 2003.
