You can find the name brands at your local shopping center. Or you can pick them up at a discount at Christian Community Action’s reSale shop in The Colony — if you can get there fast enough.
In today’s economy, it seems that shoppers can’t get enough of places such as reSale.
“Our shop in The Colony is definitely doing better,” said Kathie Gautille, CCA’s vice president of marketing and development.
The organization’s reSale store on Highway 121 is “doing slightly better,” and the main store in Old Town Lewisville is doing “exceptionally well,” she added.
According to research by the National Association of Resale and Thrift Shops, the number of shops in the industry has grown 5 percent during the last three years.
Michele Green, a shopper at The Colony reSale store, said she’s glad she could find what she needed at the shop instead of paying full price somewhere else. Her new dress shirt, scarf and jazz shoes totaled $19.80. The shoes were originally $70, she said, so she would have paid much more if she bought them at full price.
Phil Wolcott, manager of Metrocrest Social Services’ Metrocrest Thrift Store, said the store hasn’t seen any big increases in sales.
“We’re doing about the same as we did last month,” he said, and the sales numbers are comparable with last year’s. He said donations are also about the same.
Gautille said CCA’s donations have remained consistent, but “we can always use more.” The organization recently received items from Fitz and Floyd, which went out of business. The reSale shops will soon feature Fitz and Floyd’s holiday items, serving pieces, vases, cookie jars, china and other donations.
“There are a lot of incredible treasures” at the reSale stores, Gautille said. And shoppers at stores such as reSale by CCA, Frisco Resale and Metrocrest Thrift Store are also benefiting charitable organizations.
“We stand behind more than a cash register,” Gautille said. “Our reSale shops really help so much of our ministry.”
