After all of the news stories about parking and driving routes, we were expecting the journey to Cowboys Stadium to be horrendous, but it wasn't bad. We had purchased a parking pass along with our tickets, so we had reserved parking right outside the stadium. This was great for the arrival, but would prove to be a curse later during our departure.
Purses were checked at the door, but I don't recall any metal detectors when we walked through the doors. Triumphant that we were in and Leeann Womack was on stage, I was anxious to find my seat. Not an easy task.
Our tickets were for the 3rd level, but no one could seem to tell us how to get to that level. It was madness trying to navigate around people standing in food & drink lines. We finally got a stadium worker to tell us where the escaltor was to go up to the 3rd level.
Yeah, we arrived at our seats and were pleased to see jumbo screens right in front of us. The visual was so outstanding, you felt like you were on stage with the artists.
Not wanting to stand in the lines, but really thirsty, we set out on our quest for water. OMG...$5.00 for a bottle of water, $13 for a hamburger. I guess Jerry really wants to pay off the stadium fast!
As we were standing in line waiting and waiting, I over heard the concession clerk saying that there were "no straws" in the entire establishment. They sold sodas in the large plastic Cowboys tumblers with a lid and no straw. HUH? Did ya forget something Jerry?
Bathroom facilities for women were ample, but there was a revolt brewing in the ladies' restroom due to the lack of toilet paper.
Settling back in our seats, we ejoyed seeing Blake Shelton on the jumbo screen. You could see his deep blue eyes and sweat dripping from his brow...Wow!
Then, it was time for Reba McEntire. The men surrounding me were all in love with her. She put on an amazing show for the Dallas crowd. If the show had ended right there, I don't think anyone would have been disappointed, but there was still more to come.
George Strait. The reason we were all there, enduring crowds, came out on stage. I've seen him in concert before, but his music never gets old!
Strait led the crowd in a chant to have Jerry Jones open the retracting roof, which takes 12 minutes to open and close.
The jumbo screens were amazing. Everyone in the house had a great view of all of the artists and you didn't have to enduring people standing in front of you, peaking over their heads to get a glimpse.
When the concert ended, we headed to the escaltors, which the building turned off. Massive amounts of people were waiting. Finally, building personnel led us to the stairways to exit. Directing traffic inside the buidling is something that needs to be tweeked!
Trying to exit the parking lot was a nightmare. There was this one little woman in a yellow shirt, labeled "Staff." She had a flash light and flag, but apparently did not know how to use either. We waited in one line in the parking lot for over 30 minutes, then went to another line. It took us almost an hour to get to I-20 to head back to Mesquite. Needlesstosay, we were all exhausted, arriving home at 1:30 am.
Summation of our adventure to the new Cowboys Stadium? Jerry needs to train the staff to know how to direct people inside, buy STRAWS, and organize departures from the parking lots. The jumbo screens rocked, as well as Leeann, Blake, Reba and George!
