What’s the best advice you’ve received and from whom?

I have received a lot of good advice throughout my life, but one piece of advice that really sticks out to me is something that was said at my high school Baccalaureate by Dr. John Horn. He was speaking of a successful minor league baseball player who was moved up to the majors. When asked what he would do if he was moved back down to the minors, he replied that he doesn’t worry about the things he can’t control. Instead, he concerns himself with the things he can control, such as his attitude, determination, and perseverance. I just thought that what he said was exceptionally wise and a good piece of advice to follow.

If your high school career were a song, what would it be and why?

The song that best represents my high school career would be “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot because it speaks of overcoming the obstacles in one’s life. I’ve had some tough times in my high school career, but I have overcome them with the help from God, my family and friends.

What are you looking forward to most at college (and which college)?

I am really looking forward to meeting new people at the University of Texas at Dallas. Also, I am excited about learning more about the things I want to learn about rather than being in classes that I am required to take.

If your high school mascot fought your college mascot, who would win?

JohnHornHigh school’s mascot is the jaguar, and UTD’s mascot is the comet. So I think the comet would win because it would just burn up the jaguar.

How will you change the world?

My plan to change the world (in a positive way, of course) is to be the person I want other people to be. I can’t control where I will end up in my life. For all I know, I could be a person of relative importance or I could be dead tomorrow. But right now, I am surrounded by family, friends and acquaintances whose destinies may be far greater than my own. If I want these people to change for the better then I need to do more than to just tell them of a better lifestyle, I need to show them a better lifestyle by following it. If the people I know change for the better, then perhaps, the people that know them can change as well. The possibilities are infinite, but for this to occur, I have to make sure that I’m doing the right thing, which I believe I am.

Are you friends with your parents on Facebook?

My parents don’t have Facebook.

If your high school career were a song, what would it be and why?

“It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi. The song, aside from the fact that it played on repeat during countless homework sessions, depicts my view on life fairly well…it’s now or never.

What are you looking forward to most at college (and which college)?

Without a doubt, I am mostly looking forward to the unforgettable people I will meet - people who will inspire me, challenge me, and make me achieve things I would have never dreamed possible. I am a proud member of the Yale University Class of 2013.

If your high school mascot fought your college mascot, who would win?

I would bet my money on the Yale Bulldog, even against a jaguar.

How will you change the world?

There’s no way I can answer this question without ruining the surprise. But in all seriousness, it’s not my goal to change the entire world. I just want to do something that will fulfill my passions while improving the lives of those I come across.

I’m uncertain to even venture a guess, since North’s mascot is Spirit the stallion and Amherst’s is Lord Jeffrey. Most likely Lord Jeffrey with all his aged savvy as a mascot would tame and mountSpirit in victory!

I’ve always known that I would like to adopt a child and provide aid to a third world country. I also hope to do some mission work abroad while at Amherst.

I’m still trying to convince them to set one up! I know that I’ll miss my family terribly next year, so we have also invested in web cam to keep in touch.

What’s the best advice you’ve received and from whom?

The best advice that I have received would have to be that I need to keep God first in my life, and that I can do everything through Him who gives me strength (Phil 4:13) – especially since college is going to bring some tough times. I have my friends and family to thank for reminding me of this.

If your high school career were a song, what would it be and why?

I know this is cliché, but I would have to say the song that best describes my high school career would be “Friends Forever” by Vitamin C. Whenever I hear the song, I remember the times when my friends and I sang along to it before graduation and all the wonderful memories I had in high school, and I thank them for that.

At the University of Texas at Austin, I am looking forward to meeting new people since Austin is such a unique city and the school draws diverse people.

That depends on if the pirate has a gun and if he could shoot it before getting gored by the longhorn. I’d bet on the longhorn.

Of course, it looks like a cougar could beat a wrangler since it’s all pouncy and fierce.  But if the wrangler happens to have a gun on him, then, well, the wrangler would have the upper hand.

How will you change the world?

I will change the world through serving others as a physical therapist. I’ve seen how working with and just talking to someone for 45 minutes can change their mood for the better. I want to be able to do that with each and every one of my patients.
