Pre-registration for the Frosty 5K and Merry Mile is open through Dec. 9. The race is scheduled for Dec. 12 at City Hall Plaza, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd. The Merry Mile will begin at 8 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is $16 for the Merry Mile and $20 for the Frosty 5K. Race day registration is $20 for the Merry Mile and $30 for the 5K. Pre-register online at tinyurl.com/frosty5k or in person at the Frisco Athletic Center, 5828 Nancy Jane Lane.

Tickets for Frisco’s Breakfast with Santa are on sale. The event is scheduled for 8:30 to 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 at the Senior Center at Frisco Square, 6670 Moore St. Tickets are $12 per person; children two and younger are free. Tickets may be purchased at the Frisco Athletic Center, 5828 Nancy Jane Lane, or online at friscofun.org. Tickets must be picked up from the Frisco Athletic Center by 9 p.m. Dec. 4.
Registration is open through Nov. 23 for Frisco’s gingerbread house contest, which will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 at 6106 Frisco Square Blvd. The entry fee is $12. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first-served basis. Entries are limited to the first 70 received.

Dallas Baptist University Frisco will host a Leadership Empowerment Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 2 at the school, 3211 Internet Blvd. Dr. Sandra Reid will present a lecture titled Creating High Touch for High Impact Organizations in a High Tech World. Christmas in the Square, the largest choreographed holiday lights and music display in Texas, runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. every evening Nov. 27 through Jan. 3 at Frisco Square, located at the Dallas North Tollway and Main Street. Additional activities will be Dec. 11, 12, 18 and 19, including carriage and train rides, Santa Clause and a miniature train display. Santa will parachute onto Simpson Plaza on Dec. 12, and Dec. 18 will feature an inner tubing snow slide and a hot air balloon glow.

Little Elm is looking for volunteers to serve on its town boards or commissions. Boards with vacant positions are Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number 1, Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number 2 and Little Elm Redevelopment Authority. Prairie Estates Senior Community, 1350 Main St. in Frisco, will present A Salute to Our Veterans from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10. The program will include keynote speakers from various branches of the armed forces and recognition of veterans and their families. Every veteran in attendance will be entered to win door prizes, and valet parking will be provided for veterans.

The Frisco Family Services Center is collecting items for its food pantry. Most needed items are boxed meal helpers, bagged rice, bagged beans, canned tuna, cereal, cooking oil, condiments, hygiene items and diapers (sizes 4, 5 and 6). Donations are collected from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The center is located at 8780 3rd Street.
Frisco’s 2009 Champion Tree Competition is underway. Categories for this year’s competition are black walnut and most unique tree. Entries must be on private property within Frisco city limits. Entry forms are available at the parks and recreation department administrative offices, 6726 Walnut St. The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 30. Winners will receive plaques at the annual Arborfest Celebration at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 at Frisco Commons Park, 8000 McKinney Road.
Get out your Halloween costumes for the Frisco Fire Safety Town Fall Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 at Fire Safety Town, 8601 Gary Burns Drive.
Children can trick-or-treat through the miniature town. Town businesses and homeowners, including the neighborsgo staff, will pass out candy and Halloween safety tips. Kids also can visit with the Frisco Fire Clowns and get a close-up look at a fire truck.
Free remote parking is available at the FriscoAthleticCenter, 5828 Nancy Jane Lane, with shuttle buses running from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
