There’s a saying about Woodstock and the 1960s that goes something like, “If you remember it, you weren’t there.” Well, there’s not much about TAKING WOODSTOCK worth remembering, whether you’re drug addled or not.

Vampire films have been around since the days of silent pictures yet every now and then a filmmaker will come up with a new and twisted version that stands out as gloriously original. Such is the case of writer/director Chan-wookPark and his dark, dramatic, humor laced horror flick, Bakjwi (Thirst). A film so beautifully shot that if not for its subject matter you could almost consider it a stylish love story for romantics everywhere. But this one is certainly not for the squeamish or faint of heart. Edward and Bella would wet themselves if faced with the likes of these two blood thirsty lovers.

Highland Park's Village Theater has been packing people in to its four modest auditoriums for decades, its stunning facade the main draw of the property since 1935.

News came this month that Highland Park Village's new owner, Ray Washburne, and his company, HP Village Partners, Ltd., would close the theater for renovation and reopen it in May 2010. What was uncertain was if Regent would be back as the operating manager.

Today, Washburne's company announced it will partner with Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner's Landmark Theaters, owner of West Village's Magnolia and Inwood Village's Inwood Theater among over 60 national properties.

The new look will include leather seats, new projectors and sound equipment and a variety of concession options. No word yet on whether or not the bagel dogs from the Inwood will make it over as well, but other amenities are rumored to be in the works.

Hillary Artzt has more here.

You know when you've seen a Tarantino: characters chatting incessantly, bright colors, shock-value gore, an homage to a cinema style and haunting music mixed with clever filmmaking techniques.

Sometimes a Tarantino works, sometimes it doesn't.

Inglourious Basterds is a Tarantino that works. You hate to say it's right off the old Tarantino assembly line, but it does have all the aforementioned parts.

Looking for a parking place on Saturday took some time, and i figured out why as I entered Northpark mall-we'd come in the middle of the kim Dawson Model Search and the place was crawling with teenage girls hoping tob e the next face of KD. After finally finding a way to get around the stage, the girls and their families and fans, whipping out my camera for soem quick pics of Jan Strimple coaching a group of wannabes, we made it to the stairs and went uo lunch before the movie. At Fridays, we ran into neighbor cyndi govvett who made sure to tell my boys what a great mom i was for taking them to see such a boy movie as GI Joe. i was prepared for it to be a real yawner for me but ready to be supoer mom to my boys, so off we went. I was so pleasantly surprised from the beginning of the movie! Action packed but not the kind that rolls a moms eyes back in her ehad waiting for it to pass, real attention keeping action. And, the fact that there were smart and bad a** women in the film was a plus, too! I left, as the boys did, eagerly awaiting the next GI Joe movie as there has to be one, we saw the set up! Go, Joes!!

Oh, and as we were leaving, the model search competion had wrapped up and I made the boys pose for a pic with Jan, our local Dallas Supermodel!

Do you remember what college cafeteria food was like? You ate it because you were hungry, but it was never really satisfying. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great. Food items that are usually good, like pizza, were prepared with little to no flavor or spice so that no one could complain… but no one was raving about it, either. That’s POST GRAD. It’s so bland that it’s impossible to love, but you can’t really find serious fault with it, either. (more)

Robert Rodriguez's colorful , enjoyable new children's fantasy film "Shorts" affirms his versatility as a filmmaker. The Texas-bred director and writer has done everything from action adventure ("Desperado," "Sin City") to horror ("The Faculty," "Planet Terror") to children's films ("Spy Kids"), most of which is filmed right here in the Lone Star State (thank you, Mr. Rodriguez for bringing Texas the work). "Shorts" is unconventionally imaginative with the usual odd Rodriguez touches (a giant, evil booger steals the movie) that make for hardly smooth storytelling, but is still lively, suitable fun for the whole family.

If you just graduated from college and job hunting in this recessionary job market, then the predictable, unimaginative new comedy "Post Grad" may not be for you. This agreeable, paint-by-numbers movie has a "been there done that" feeling to it, which isn't surprising given that it stars Alexis Bledel from "Gilmore Girls" and plays out like an episode from that popular, long-running series. In spite of a noteworthy supporting cast that steals the best scenes in the movie, "Post Grad" is a pleasant but unrevealing cream puff of a movie that doesn’t offer anything really new. (more)
