Olympic gymnasts Nastia Liukin and Carly Patterson autographed everything from posters and Wheaties boxes to shirts and cellphones at a Feb. 14 charity luncheon in Frisco.

Liukin and Patterson were hosts for the Golden Girl Luncheon, a private event conducted during the WOGA Classic gymnastics tournament.

During the luncheon, I watched as the 25 attendees -- mostly girls competing in the tournament -- requested autographs, took pictures and asked questions.

When the luncheon ended, I asked Liukin and Patterson some questions of my own.

My friends and I competed in a trivia at a local restaurant over the weekend.

We came in fourth from last, which I’ve decided to consider as an accomplishment. My friend and I are officially better guessers than at least two teams of an unknown number of people. And I don’t want to brag, but we did get a perfect score one round.

The category: Disney movies.

When you consider school holidays and severe weather days, most students in Frisco, Little Elm and The Colony haven’t spent a whole lot of 2009 in the classroom.

Nevertheless, school news is already filling the pages of neighborsgo this year. We’ve received stories and photos featuring students of all ages participating in all kinds of interesting activities. (more)

There’s something quite humbling about riding a tricycle with a group of preschoolers – especially when you’re riding in front of all their parents.

Editor’s note: Frisco residents can participate in Coffee with the Mayor on the first Monday of every month. Frisco Mayor Maher Maso began the program in June to offer citizens a chance for casual conversation. Mayor Maso recently answered some questions about Coffee with the Mayor.

Lots of kids go to college and gain what’s known as the “freshman 15.” Lucky for me, I went to the University of Missouri, where students are said to gain the “Mizzou 22.”

And like a good college student, I came home in May 2007 with a fancy journalism degree — and a few extra pounds.

My family and I celebrated the first night of Hanukkah on Dec. 21. I bought everyone the same gift — pajamas.

I suppose it seems like a grandmotherly thing to do, but everyone asked for them. And it could have been worse — I could have bought everyone matching pajamas.

I learned a valuable piece of information at Frisco Fire Safety Town’s Holiday Lights program Dec. 13: Alvin and the Chipmunks have an entire Christmas CD. (I’m sure it used to be a Christmas cassette tape, or even a Christmas record.)

Dec. 3 was a record-breaking day for the Frisco Family Services Center.

Forty-four families visited the FFSC food pantry, more people than ever utilizing the service in one day.

The highlight of my weekend will be the Holiday Lights event at Frisco Fire Safety Town. But it’s not because I’m a huge fan of Christmas lights. Rather, FireSafetyTown is the only place where I feel tall.
