        At a gala kick-off party hosted by Park Place Lexus and Silver Fox for the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center, gala chair Carolyn Speese revealed that the April 24 event at Dallas' Hilton Anatole will be WCR, (World Classic Rockers) which features former band members from Santana, Journey, Boston, Steppenwolf, Toto, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

           Plano resident Christine Brauss and her mother and brother will be honored with the Gift of Life Award at a gala benefiting the National Kidney Foundation Serving North Texas Nov. 7 at the Northwood Club in Dallas.   

         Diagnosed with renal disease at the age of 6, Brauss underwent three years of dialysis in her early 20s before receiving a kidney in 1985 from her mother, Patti Martin. 

         Anti-rejection medicine became toxic to the new kidney and she needed another transplant in 1996, this time from her brother, Fred Martin.

           Star Children's Charity will host its second annual star-studded Winter Ball with a recreation of a 1940s New York Supper Nov. 7 at Embassy Suites in Frisco. 

         The "Star Room" will feature the Big Band sounds of  Riki Derek and his Big Band, dinner, dancing, an open bar, raffle, live and silent auctions and casino gaming, all dramatically staged in black and white.

         The first of what portends to be many Collin Intervention to Youth Derby galas is expected to meet and exceed its $100,000 goal
for children in crisis served at the CITY House and My Friend's House shelters.

Before he died of Sudden Cardiac Arrest while running football drills at Plano East in April, Zachary Schrah had written a paper that included the statement, "Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out." (more)

            At an Arts of Collin County reception hosted for 200 guests at Gary Riggs Interiors in Allen, ACC executive director Mike Simpson announced $325,000 in new contributions for the 100+ acre arts park.

            The most recent  donors are Market Street and Oncor at the $100,000 level; Strasburger & Price LLP and Sue and Jim Minyard at the $50,000 plateau, and Texas Health Resources, $25,000.

          Good Samaritans Rebecca Cole and the Torchmark Company of McKinney and Christ Church Plano will be honored guests when the Samaritan Inn, Collin County's only homeless shelter, celebrates its 25th anniversary at an Oct. 17gala at Embassy Suites in Frisco.  

         Ebby Halliday will serve as honorary chair with Steve Stoler of WFAA Channel 8 as emcee and entertainment by the Maylee Thomas Band.
