Summer is in full swing.
That means this is the time for vacations, mission trips,
staycations and long car rides. Even with schools releasing as early as the
first week in June, summer fun has already begun, and at
<i>neighborsgo<i>, we look forward to hearing about your treks in
the coming months.
Starting Sunday, CornerstoneUnitedMethodistChurch in Garland
will embark upon their summer mission trip, and throughout this week, area VacationBibleSchool
classes are beginning.
Admittedly, my personal bias for summer trips revolves
around anything involving baseball. Whether it’s going to a Rangers game in Arlington, watching the RoughRiders in Frisco from the
cheap seats or seeing my Little League all-stars begin the long road to Williamsport, Pa.,
the game of baseball is an integral part of my summer.
This week’s issue takes a different spin on Little League
baseball with a special feature about my first year as a manager with a Little
League baseball team.
Keeping in the “Summer is here” theme, this week’s issue
highlights several activities that have made for fun in the Garland sun.
Hawaiian Falls hosted its Home School Daze as part of the
summer activities and Richardson resident and longtime neighborsgo
contributor David Alvey captured the event on camera.
Readers may also notice a return of our special
<i>neighborsgo<i> insert for the Science of Spying at Dallas’
Museum of Science and Nature. Museum visits are another staycation idea and a
way to spend an afternoon with hands-on educational experiences. Trust me, kids
may be a little bit uneasy about a museum, but after seeing puzzles in the
paper and then getting to try out being a spy, there will be nothing but smiles
at the end of an afternoon at the exhibit.
Summertime is here, so don’t be shy from having us as part
of your summer memories. Set up a blog on the road about a vacation, send us
photos from when the family is together, tell us a funny story about that
really bad sunburn from the beach that makes it impossible to sit in a chair
properly. We want to hear it all in the coming weeks and months.
