Nexus Executive Director Becca Crowell Receives AAUW Honor
Nexus Recovery Center Executive Director Becca Crowell was recently honored as a Woman of Distinction by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Texas at their annual convention. Crowell was nominated by the Dallas Branch of the AAUW. Other women honored by the Dallas Branch include Dr. Elba Garcia, Laura Gonzalez, Hind Jarrah, Dr. Diana Natalicio, Katherine Owens, Teri Portillo, Becky Sykes and TheaTemple.One hundred women leaders of Texas were honored for their extraordinary accomplishments in their professions and their communities in celebration of the 100th anniversary of AAUW in Texas. Women selected for this honor represent a number of different professional fields and the diversity of personal characteristics and life experiences of women. Crowell was recognized in the field of public service for her long tenure as the executive director of Nexus Recovery Center, a program for female drug addicts who have no place else to turn. She is considered to be a pioneer of specialized female treatment services in the addiction field and Nexus is recognized nationally for the high quality of treatment provided and its strong business practices.According to the AAUW of Texas, “Women of Distinction are leaders in their fields, innovators of unique programs and services, promoters of excellence, advocates for equity for women and girls, supporters of causes and defenders of those less fortunate than themselves. Women of Distinction exemplify a lifelong commitment to positive societal change that enriches us all.”Nexus RecoveryCenter has been empowering women and families to break the cycle of addiction since 1971. Their mission is to serve as a link to sobriety, independence and dignity for low-income women and their families affected by addiction. They inspire hope, offer respect, and honor the unique differences of female addicts. NexusRecoveryCenter has been a United Way Agency since 1975.
