On Saturday, July 12 more than 100 volunteers participated in the first annual Collin County Volunteer Challenge, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
Projects were held at three locations in Plano, two in Wylie and one in McKinney. In Plano, volunteers prepared meals for the residents and participated in a gardening project at City House Teen Shelter. At Dayspring Assisted Living, volunteers held an old-fashioned carnival for residents and their families and had a hamburger and hot dog cookout with all the trimmings. Other volunteers did a gardening project for the City of Planoâs Community Garden.
In Wylie, Collin County volunteers gathered to renovate the cat enclosures at In-Sync Exotics, which takes in and rehabilitates injured and abandoned large cats. At Equest, which provides equine therapy for children and adults, volunteers painted, landscaped and renovated structures.
At the Heard Museum in McKinney, volunteers helped with an outdoor beautification project.
