South Irving deserves better. However, they won't get it if they don't go to City Hall and ask for it in as loud a voice as needed.
It really shouldn't be that way but my wife and I have seen a few things happen recently in our neighborhood because we have ASKED the city to change directions and fix some specific issues up and down and around the block from us. We ASKED them to focus on SIN / South Irving Neglect. Simple and effective, and guess what? Our property value and the aesthetics of our neighborhood and the quality of our life are better for it. Plus, we have met some great people in our quest to improve South Irving.
We believe the council has finally added a tool that Building and Standards may use to further facilitate the demolition of decaying, vacant or neighborhood property value busting structures in all of Irving. I'm not holding my breath but we have high hopes.
It will be a long road to restore South Irving. If it's to be done it will be done, one structure at a time. Why not the old Central Fire Station on East 2nd Street?
Many thanks to Neighborsgo.com for providing a vehicle to post our concerns.
This is the Central Fire Station, on East 2nd Street near Jefferson Street, which closed in 1984. The Irving Fire Department claims it is being restored by the Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association. However, rotting and missing wood photographed on March 15, 2006, where pigeons nest, was worse when photographed on May 15, 2007. This is another shameful example of the decline of South Irving.
