More examples of journalistic idiocy - July 25, 2007 - 12:28 PM
During today's industrial accident near downtown Dallas, viewers got more first-hand examples of the journalistic idiocy that seems to prevail throughout the Dallas press corps. Reporters and cameramen, in an effort to get 'up close' to the incident, put themselves in harm's way. The reporters also postured throughout the morning with speculation about what had happened before actually getting information directly from city and emergency officials. And do any of these reporters know how to do a 'live' report on 'breaking news' with using the word 'basically' over-and-over? Watching news in Dallas (and other markets, too) can be humorous, even during a crisis like the one that happened today.
Journalistic Integrity Lacking - July 2, 2007 - 05:54 PM
Words cannot describe my anger over the lack of journalistic integrity displayed by several television reporters and their management last week when it was falsely reported that a human fetus had been found in a locker at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Dallas. In an effort to 'overdramatize' the story and be the 'first' to get it on the air without CHECKING FACTS, all of the reporters went on the air and stated - without confirmation from the Dallas police, DISD officials or the Dallas County Medical Examiner - that the item was a human fetus. The next day the Dallas County Medical Examiner reported that the item was actually a bag of ROTTEN ORANGES!!! None of the news agencies went on the air to correct their reports of the previous day, though! My twin stepdaughters and many of their friends attend Franklin Middle School and were very upset over the initial reports which resulted in their mother having a very frank and honest discussion with them about what they all thought had happened within their school's hallways. I cannot describe how angry I am with the news directors and news producers in Dallas who allowed their reporters to go on the air with inaccurate information and falsely reported what was not true!!! The media must be held accountable for its mistakes and this one was a BIG ONE! SHAME ON THE DALLAS MEDIA FOR ITS GROSS NEGLIGENCE ON THIS STORY THAT WAS *NOT* A STORY!!!
