Homestead Elementary 5th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction

0 Ratings / 0 Comments
On Friday, February 1, 2008, Homestead Elementary School hosted their 5th Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction.  The children and parents took a “Walk on the Wild Side” as the school was transformed into a jungle for this year’s “Safari Party” theme.  In addition to enjoying the wonderful spaghetti dinner, a silent auction and raffle were also held.  This year the auction featured a special selection of donations from Hebron High School.  These were a favorite among the students who now earned the opportunity to be ball girls/boys at the high school sporting events.  What a special treat for them!  A new addition to the event was the King of the Jungle, which everyone could vote on his or her favorite college team by donating change to his or her favorite team’s can.  The Aggies were well represented and the Texas A & M flag will fly for a week in the halls of Homestead.  The children enjoyed DJ Ed Petty from Bill Cody’s Party time Productions as well as a jungle bounce house and “Safari Party” photo buttons. Volunteer moms spent endless hours to make this night the success that it was.  Every year the event has become more popular and very well attended and added a 22% increase over last year.  The school couldn’t make it’s safari transformation without the leadership of Leigh Ann Genard, along with Lynette Fedash, Jane Nolan, Michelle Holley, Allyson Johnson, Emily West, Rhonda France, Cathy Turner, Melissa Rembicki, Michelle Moore, Diana Talkington,  DeShawn Lasiter, Lisa McClurg and so many other great parents.  These creative efforts were definitely appreciated by the new principal, Sean Perry.   This is a wonderful opportunity to raise money for your school to purchase playground equipment, computers, cafeteria tables and a number of much needed items that every school needs. Built in 1999, Homestead Elementary has provided a caring, supportive atmosphere for young learners in kindergarten through fifth grade. Using the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, our teachers plan lessons that make learning fun and memorable! With parent support, our students learn and grow into happy, responsible community members. Homestead Elementary received Gold Performance Acknowledgments from the Texas Education Agency in 2005-06 for: Attendance (2004-05); Commended on Reading/ELA; Commended on Mathematics; and Commended on Writing.

One thing for sure is, the night of February 1st, Homestead Elementary was definitely the “wildest” place in town!
