What did you this Valentine's Day; give the usual cards or maybe a box of chocolates to someone special? Well, the students, staff, and parents at Ashley Elementary in Frisco, TX did something extra special this year. They gave a very special gift to the environment!
Beginning January 28th all the way through February 8th, the Ashley Family began preparing their gift for the environment. Each day students, staff, family, and friends collected old and unused phone books to be recycled. These phone books were placed on the stage in the school Cafe in the shape of a pyramid for all to see! The excitement and enthusiasm continued to grow as our pyramid grew by leaps and bounds each day! By Friday, February 8th, we had collected 3,192 phone books! What a gift to give to the environment!
With the help of the Ashley Elementary Recycling Team, better known as the Green Team, we were able to load all of those phone books into our recycling dumpster. We filled two recycling dumpsters and more importantly we recycled important paper and saved countless trees! A big thank you to everyone who made this year's phone book recycling event a huge success!
