Hatikva 6, one of Israel's leading young bands, will appear in concert at Congregation Beth Torah on Sunday, March 23, at 7 p.m. - the group's only area appearance on a nationwide tour.
The popular quartet has electrified Israel with a Caribbean-influenced sound tackling personal, political and social issues in Hebrew and English. Their current hit, If I Meet God, has been nominated for Song of the Year in Israel.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring this terrific young group to North Texas,” said Jeff Markowitz, co-chair of the concert planning committee for the Richardson synagogue. “They’re on the cutting edge of Israeli pop culture right now, and they’re going to be an important presence on the world music scene.”
The band – Ido Lederman, Ron Linial, Shelly Glikman and Omri Glikman (who are brother and sister) – gained a large following in Israeli nightclubs and music festivals before releasing their first album, Hatikva 6, last August. Noam Amir, music critic for the Israeli website Charts, praised the album as “excellent!...Without a doubt we’re talking about people who understand music, breathe it and eat it three times a day.”
Music journalist Itamar Nimrod of the news and culture website Scoop called Hatikva 6 the “discovery of the year” for 2007. Referring to If I Meet God, he wrote, “They were the only ones this year who succeeded in putting out a song that made my summer.”
Writing about a recent concert in Israel, reviewer Michal Ben-David gushed, “Wow! Wow! Wowwwwww! How much energy, how much joy, what an exciting groove and what fun. You can describe Hatikva 6 in one word: a blast.”
Tickets – $12 in advance, $15 at the door – are on sale now at Beth Torah, which is located at 720 West Lookout Drive in Richardson. They can be reserved by calling the synagogue at 972-234-1542 or at its website, www.congregationbethtorah.org.
