Studying matter can be lots of fun especially when you make ice cream. First grade students completed their unit on matter by turning their liquid into a solid. Students were given cream, sugar and vanilla inside a zipper bag which was then placed inside another zipper bag full of ice and rock salt. Then they shook and shook and shook and shook and then well they shook some more. After many minutes of shaking and warming cold fingers, gradually students got to enjoy their frozen matter. Students then realized that their solid matter was once again a liquid. What a yummy way to learn about science!
