Friends of Katy Trail to meet
Friends of the KatyTrail is having its spring membership event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at The Fish, 3636 McKinney Ave. (the entrance is on CityPlace West Boulevard), a new restaurant in the WestVillage serving Asian fusion cuisine.Current and prospective members are invited to attend to enjoy refreshments and learn more about installation of lighting along the KatyTrail.Lighting the KatyTrail is part of the Friends of the KatyTrail master plan for the 3.5 mile-long recreational trail. Work on the lighting is currently underway on the southern half of the trail. Those attending will learn how they can help Friends of the Katy Trail win a matching grant from the Hoblitzelle Foundation to complete installation of the lighting on the northern half from Knox Street to Airline Boulevard.Membership in Friends of the KatyTrail begins at $35 and will be available at the party. Through a $23 million capital campaign, the cooperation of the city, country, state and federal funding agencies, and a general membership of about 1,100, Friends of the KatyTrail has helped secure $18 million toward its goal to create a great American park.
