Suncreek United Methodist Church continues to experience steady growth. The church membership has more than tripled in size since 2001. The church has a reputation for extraordinary preaching and music in worship, strong children and youth ministries, and a heart for missions. In a 2006 local newspaper poll, Suncreek was awarded Best Church and Best Pastor in Collin County.
To accommodate growth, the church broke ground on March 9 for its newest building on its 12-acre site. The classrooms for the new building were marked off with tape allowing people to see the actual size of the building and classrooms, children were able to break ground in the location of their actual Sunday school classrooms.
The new education building will include 11 classrooms for children, 2 adult classrooms, a large circular multipurpose room, a computer lab, children’s ministries offices, and a play area for young children. The new building will also house Suncreek Children’s Development Center, the preschool program which currenlty operates three days a week during the school year.Suncreek will also be making some changes to their current sanctuary to add seating for 100 more persons and to expand the chancel area. One of the factors requiring work on the chancel area is the growth of the church’s youth choir from 50 to 95 members in the last year.
The church has spent the last two years completely redesigning the master plan which now includes a long tree- and garden-lined plaza that connects all the buildings. Many of these trees will be planted soon. In a few years, the church plans to begin constructing at 2-story 60,000 sq. ft. education with a gym and innovative youth facilities. Three more buildings are part of themaster plan including a building for adults and music ministries, a final sanctuary, and a chapel near the grove of large trees across from the Twin Creeks I fields.
