The North Lake College Blazer basketball team won the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national title with a 73-70 win over Joliet Junior College, Ill. The tournament ended on Saturday, March 15 in Delhi, New York. The North Lake Blazers also won the tournament in 2006.
The Blazers defeated Brookhaven College 98-89 to win the Metro Athletic Conference championship game and go on to represent the Dallas County Community College District at the national playoffs. Last year the Blazers went to the national conference, but finished fourth.
“The 2008 Blazer team is a balanced team with a lot of great first-year students, and all 12 players contribute,” stated Coach Tim McGraw. Brian Sanders, a 6’1” freshman guard led the team in scoring and was named Most Valuable Player at the tournament. Brian is from Cy-FairHigh School in Houston. Nathan Pratt, a freshman from San Antonio, TX, made the All Tournament Team. Coach McGraw was named Gary Cole Coach of the tournament.
