Irving Cares Fishing In The City

1 Rating / 1 Comment
Nissan North America presents the Second Annual Fishing in the City Pro-Am Fishing Tournament on Saturday, April 5, 2008 on LakeCarolyn in the heart of the Las Colinas Urban Center.  In its first year, this event raised $1,339 to support the Employment Services Program at Irving Cares.  This event pairs guest anglers with Professional Bass Anglers as they compete to catch the five heaviest fish.  Professional anglers will fish with guest anglers on the lake from boats using gear provided by the professional angler.  Online bidding is now available at www.irvingcares.org for a spot with a pro.  Passes are also available to fish from the bank using your own gear.  While the anglers are fishing, guests can visit the booths set up near the weigh-in site, including a display of the Nissan Titan, or use their own gear and fish from the bank.  There will also be a silent auction including additional one hour blocks of time for other guest anglers to join the professional anglers fishing on LakeCarolyn.

During the 2007 event, ten professional anglers fished with guests, providing the boats, gear, and expert advice.  Allan Meagher fished with 2008 Co-Chairperson and Professional Bass Angler Matt Hupp.  “I learned so much with Matt as my guide.  Fishing on LakeCarolyn is a special experience, and Matt’s tips helped us bring in lots of fish.  You will definitely enjoy your time supporting Irving Cares and Fishing in the City,” said Allan.

“This tournament was created by Irving Cares Board Member Allan Meagher and 2008 Co-Chairperson Sheila Hupp.  We’d lost some funding for the Employment Services Program, and they envisioned this tournament as a way to help replace some of those funds.  We are excited about Nissan North America’s sponsorship this year, and we hope many more supporters will join them. More sponsors include Herbert & Christina Gears, Boyle & Lowry LLP at the White Bass level and Sybil Walker at the Blue Gill level,” said Executive Director Teddie Story.   “Ryan Sanders of Ichthus Creative Guild is an in-kind sponsor.”

Anglers of all skill levels will enjoy participating in this event.  LakeCarolyn is a private lake stocked with a wide variety of fish.  Normally, fishing is restricted on this lake; however, for this special event, you can explore and find that special spot where the fish are biting.
