Miss Teen uses Richardson title to address drunken driving

2 Ratings / 8 Comments
Ashleigh Gordy is a high school junior, the current Miss Teen Richardson, and a passionate supporter of drunk- driving and underage drinking laws. A year and a half ago, her boyfriend Aaron Chapman was killed while riding in a car that was driven by a drunk driver who crashed. Aaron was 18, and had just graduated from high school at  Canyon Creek  Christian Academy.

Ashleigh attends American Heritage Academy in Carrollton now, where she has put together a team of friends to walk in the 2008 Walk Like MADD 5K - The fundraiser will be held at Williams Square in Las Colinas, and  many of the teams will be made up of   loved ones of those  who have been  impacted by  drunk driving.

She has also chosen drunk-driving awareness as her platform for her Miss Teen Texas run, and is  passionate about letting other kids her age know how dangerous their decisions can be.

“After Aaron died, I started looking around to see what was out there for teens, as far as drinking and driving,” said Ashleigh.  “I decided to do what I could to make other kids aware of the danger.”  She adds that  “teenagers just don’t realize that they could be  next- it  really does happen to people you know.”     To register to be walker, or a virtual  walker for Walk Like MADD,  go to  walklikemadd.org or call 214-637-0372
