The long standing tradition returns to downtown Mesquite on Saturday March 29. The parade steps off at 10:00 a.m.
Celebrating the annual opening of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, the Rodeo Parade is a community wide event bringing together civic clubs, churches, community groups and schools. The parade will follow its traditional route starting on Belt Line at Newsom, proceeding through downtown Mesquite and ending on Galloway Ave. at New Market.
This year, the parade returns to its traditional date marking the annual opening of the Rodeo on April 3 and 4. In 2007, the 50th anniversary parade was moved to recognize the Real.Texas.Festival. This year’s Grand Marshall is retired police chief Gary Westphal.
The Parade is sponsored by the Exchange Club of Mesquite, a local service club dedicated to community service, child abuse prevention and American Pride. Each year the club passes out American flags to all children attending the parade. The parade is also sponsored by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, the City of Mesquite, the HAM Association of Mesquite and First State Bank.
This year’s parade is a litter free event. All participants and attendees are asked to collect and dispose of any trash found on the parade route following the event.
