What scouting activity did more than 1000 Girl Scouts participate in last fall? Archery - Its true!!! Isn't that amazing?
Lisa Gackle, with her husband Boyd, organizes monthly archery events for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas at Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas. Archery has become very poplular with the girls this year, each event has been full. Girls of all ages are allowed to particpate, even Brownies (1-3 graders). Older girls (ages 11-17) have the opportunity to advance their skills and then become "archery range helpers". They help the archery instructors set up the range and they help the younger Girl Scouts enjoy the sport.
Girl Scout troops 24 and 795 from Carrollton went to Girl Scout Camp Whispering Cedars on Saturday, March 29th to enjoy the archery event and earn their "junior archer patch". The girls are in grades 3 - 5. They had a lot of fun.
Girl Scouts in our area can also enjoy archery at troop campouts and at severl of the council's summer Girl Scout day camps and resident camps. Girls should check with the council for details.
