Current and former Garland High School student filmmakers had the exciting opportunity to have a sampling of their short films shown on the big screens at Victory Park in front of the American Airlines Center in Dallas Friday night, March 28. The films were part of the AFI (American Film Institute) International Film Festival Local High School Showcase, in which student films from several area high schools were featured.
Garland High School presented three films at the showcase. They include:
Hello Saturn: Director, Screenwriter, and Editor: Annaliza Christie. Cinematographer: Leah Towb. Music: Mike Munywoki. Cast: Audrey Olena and Benjamin Towb.
A Lovely Reality: Co-Directors, Co-Screenwriters, and Co-Editors: Joe Brittain and Stephanie Kim. Sound: Joe Brittain. Cinematography: Stephanie Kim. Music: Bryce Biffle. Cast: Alex Nelson, Caitlyn Maddux, Drew Mowrey, and Joe Brittain.
The Crooked Knife: Director: Cesar Hurtado. Screenwriters: Sarah Johnson, Joe Brittain, and Cesar Hurtado. Cinematography: Sarah Johnson. Sound and Editing: Joe Brittain. Cast: Alex Nelson, Dustin Bartholomew, Rachel Johnson, and Cesar Hurtado.
Garland High School film students participate in the IB Film program. Classes are taught by Patty Schubert and Thomas Schubert.
Lakeview Centennial High School also had three films featured at the showcase.
The High School Showcase will be shown again on Saturday, April 5, at 1:30 pm at the Magnolia Theatre in Dallas.
