Shelton School Stampede Benefit Auction Kick Off Party

The Shelton School Stampede Benefit Auction 2008 Hosted Kick-Off Event & Gift Gathering Party at the home of Gigi and Carl Allen 

Shelton School supporters and organizers gathered at the home of Gigi and Carl Allen on February 28, for the Kick Off and Gift Gathering Party for the 2008 SHELTON Stampede Benefit Auction. 

This year’s auction will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2008, 6:30 p.m., House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St.  Pat and Emmitt Smith will serve as honorary chairs.   Shelton School, now in its 32nd year, is the largest private school in the world for students with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, speech, and language disorders, serving pre-school through 12th grade.

The Stampede Auction will also feature HAUTE CHILE, a top Los Angeles dance party band, as the musical entertainment for the evening, which will include live and silent auctions and dinner. Stampede Auction Chairs are Charlotte Anderson, Shea Boscamp, Tracy Cheatham, Tami Delsanter, and Tanya Mendenhall.

“The money raised at the Stampede auction will not only benefit children currently at Shelton, but will also help to benefit future children who have the special educational needs that only a school like Shelton can address,” said Charlotte Anderson, event co-chair.  “Our sincere thanks goes out to the many volunteers and Stampede underwriters as well as friends, faculty, parents, and staff at Shelton who make this event such a success.”

“The parents of Shelton School students have worked so hard to make the annual Stampede Benefit Auction an incredible fundraising opportunity for the school, netting over $340,000 just last year,” said Joyce Pickering, Executive Director, Shelton School.  “With those funds we have been able to provide such things as SmartBoards for classrooms as well as enhance our fine arts programs as well as our library/media programs.  The event has only grown each year and this year’s is on its way to being our most successful yet.”

One out of seven people in the United States has some type of learning difference (LD).  LD students are bright, expressive children whose brains process information differently.  They have neurobiological differences, and their IQs are usually normal and above.

Founded in 1976, Shelton School is the largest private school for learning-different students in the world.  It is a private non-profit, non-sectarian, co-ed school currently serving 840 students in grades pre-school through 12.  Shelton’s individualized, structured multi-sensory academic program, especially written for LD students, challenges students by building the necessary skills.    As a national resource center, Shelton also includes three additional components: The Speech/Language/Hearing Clinic; The Evaluation Center; and The Outreach Center.  The school acts as a national demonstration, training, and referral center for educators, physicians and psychologists.
