Yorktown Education, an innovative new model of education, will host enrollment information sessions beginning May 3 for grades six through high school. When the first Yorktown school opens in Addison in September, 2008, the area’s most respected teachers will lead students with one-on-one instruction in an individually-paced study program. Teachers will be compensated through an incentive-based program and paid well above the average teacher’s salary inNorth Texas.
In sharp contrast to the “one size fits all” method currently in place in most schools, Yorktown’s curriculum allows each student to reach his or her unique potential, guided consistently by the same teachers over several years. The customized instruction is coupled with award-winning online coursework. Yorktown expects graduates to complete two years of college credit by 18 years of age, giving them an edge in the aggressive college application process.
Another unique aspect of the Yorktown model is the flexible schedule. Parents choose the days their students are in school and can drop kids off (and take them out) on a self-determined basis, anytime between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This helps families manage competitive sports, activities or travel while maximizing their student’s education.
In consultation with leading education experts around the country, Yorktown CEO and Founder Randy Reiners, an experienced executive, developed the model after disappointing experiences with his own children’s schools. “I wanted something better for my children, something more challenging, something more customized,” Reiners said. “That is what Yorktown is – a one-on-one experience for students that really builds their strengths and eliminates their weaknesses.”
Mr. Reiners is joined on the Yorktown Advisory Board by some of the country’s most forward-thinking educators. Board members include Dr. John Pepper, former superintendent of two of the country’s largest school systems; Susan Patrick, president of the North American Council for Online Learning; Bruce Friend, founder of Florida Virtual School; Bruce Wilcox, founder and CEO of Apprender, Inc.; and Karen Bruett, senior marketing advisor for E-Luminate Group.
Enrollment information sessions are at 10 a.m., May 3, 10 and 17 at the Crowne Plaza, 14315 Midway Road (between Spring Valley and Belt Line). For more information please visit yorktowned.org.
