Art is Ageless

DALLAS, April 12, 2008       It was standing room only, Saturday, April 12,  at The Point, Center for Arts and Education, on the campus of C.C. Young when the Dallas community gathered to celebrate the 9th Annual Art is Ageless art show and concert.

          Event chair, Nancy Ann Hunt, presented the 2008 Creative Spirit Awards artists, craftsmen, and writers, highlighting their participation and support of the always present and ageless creative spirit which is the embodiment of C.C. Young’s vision and mission.

          The intergenerational art show featured children’s art from The Parish Episcopal School and art created by seniors in their 55th year and beyond.  Senior art was judged.  The awards were representations of the sculpture found in the courtyard of The Point and were hand crafted by the Reverend Sammy Hargrove.

            The winner of a group project was created by C.C. Young residents who reside in LawtherPointHealthCenter.  The Creative Spirit Award for Hard Crafts was presented to Charlotte Ware Haley for her jewelry, The Photography Award went to Jan Partin.  The Soft Craft Award was presented to Emeline Thaxton for her quilt. Elisabeth Schalij Olsen was selected to receive the Visual Arts (mixed media) entry).  Margaret Murrell was selected her her satercolor and acrylic painting and Patricia Regan for her oil painting entry.  The Prose Award went to W.F. Goodman and the Poetry Award winner was Jan Bionde.  Fred Greene accepted C.C. Young’s 2008 Collaborator of the Year Award for the American Parkinson Disease Association, North Texas Chapter. 

            Students from the Talent Education Music Studios of Plano, under the direction of Paul Landefeld, provided entertainment during the awards ceremony. In the courtyard Dr. Quoc-Anh Tran and his training instructors demonstrated the art of Tai Chi Qi Gong, taught on weekends at C.C. Young. 

            According to Ken Durand, President and CEO of C.C. Young, “this yearly event truly demonstrates the joy of life-long learning and creativity no matter one’s limitations.  What a joy it was to have the event on campus in our beautiful new center known as The Point, Center for Arts and Education and to have an overflowing crowd join us in this celebration of the ageless spirit.”
