Spring is a busy time for high schoolers. The UIL competitions come at a time when many other activities cause a stir for the teachers. Lindy Perez, RHS choir director had a challenge in getting all the choir members to rehearsals. "This choir has Eaglettes, baseball and softball players, cheerleaders, track team members, theatre, art, communications, law and HOSA magnet students, swimmers, peer helpers, and members of the band and orchestra!”
Sounds like a daunting task in coordination, but Ms. Perez's task was accomplished and The Richardson High School Choirs earned four sweepstakes at the UIL concert and sight reading contest. That is all first division or superior ratings by all judges. The Varsity Men, Jr. Varsity Choir and Non-Varsity Women also won sweepstakes. The Varsity Women earned superior ratings in concert and an excellent rating in sight-reading.
Immediately after the competition, in the hallway, students were seen changing clothes to prepare for their next activity, be it a baseball game, drill team practice or tennis competition.
After the hard work before and during the contest, the choir members were treated to a day in CottonwoodPark. May 2 - 5 they will take a trip to San Antonio where they will have the opportunity to perform, and see the broadway show, The Wedding Singer. They will also visit Fiesta Texas, Seaworld, and the San Antonio Riverwalk.
The next choir performance will be the spring concert on May 15 at 7:30 at the RHS auditorium. The choirs will sing lighter tunes, and have a chance to audition for solos. In addition, Legacy, the show choir will perform with the RHS jazz band May 20 at 6 pm in the RHS courtyard.
