This is in reference to a community leader who has already demonstrated her ability to lead by example. Rachel Lopez is, and continues to be, a true leader; she sets the pace for others to follow. Her extensive background is not only impressive, but inclusive, bringing the Mesquite community leaders together. Her involvement in the fire and police organizations has given Rachel the opportunity to spend hundreds of hours in not only educating herself, but also vesting her educational experiences in the Mesquite community. For example, she completed both the Mesquite Citizen’s Police Academy and Mesquite Citizen’s Fire Academy , and continues to be an active participant in both Alumni Associations with these groups.

As a parent, her involvement in her son’s activities and organizations has given her the opportunity to experience what we as parents go through with our children. Rachel recognizes the time and commitment that we as parents in the community devote to making our children productive members of the Mesquite community. She participated and completed the Mesquite Independent School District ’s “Active Leaders Inspired by a Vision of Excellence,” (ALIVE) program. Her vision brings new educational experiences for our children that we often have to go to other cities to experience.

We in the Mesquite community are ready to see someone who is not a political figure with lined pockets of silver and gold. We need someone who listens to the community’s concerns and is not distanced from its constituents.  Rachel organizes her neighborhood’s Crime Watch meetings, assists the Fire Department in their annual Smoke Detector installation program, and provides translation assistance at the annual Santa Cop Program, to name a few.

Our community leaders need to demonstrate what they can do before they can lead; Rachel has accomplished this.  We, as parents and members of the Mesquite community, are ready for someone like Rachel to be part of the leadership in the Mesquite City Council. We need someone like Rachel who has community experience, and who brings new beginnings to the Mesquite community.

Thank you,

George Rangel
