0 Ratings / 0 Comments

The Coppell Middle School North Bands are continuing with their tradition of excellence this year with more outstanding achievements and awards.

As the current Texas State Honor Band and a National Honors Wind Band, the North Cougars are setting the standard for musical excellence across Texas and the nation.

The North Symphonic Band Red, Symphonic Band White, the North Honor Winds, and the 6th grade Beginner Band all competed at regional competitions the past few weeks garnering the top awards available.

At University Interscholastic League Concert and Sight Reading Competition, all of the North 7th and 8th grade bands received straight first division superior ratings from every judge both in concert and sight reading competition.  North was the only school out of 68 competing that all bands received straight first divisions.

The North Beginner Band also walked away with great success this past weekend by once again capturing all first division superior ratings ranking them at the top with the best bands of the contest receiving first divisions.  The North Beginner Band competed by playing a musical program off of the high school AA contest list.  This is literature 2-3 years above the 6th grade level.

The Cougar band students also enjoyed great success at solo and ensemble competition back in February, breaking all previous records set for solo contest.   The North Cougars walked away with over 240 first division superior awards as well as 22 outstanding soloist, the most of any school in competition.  This was a new record of excellence for the solo competition.

The North Symphonic Bands and Honor Winds will be featured in concert at the Dallas Meyerson Symphony Center on Friday, May 16, as they compete in the Southwest U.S. Regionals.   Bands from across the southern United States will be competing for top honors at this event.  The Coppell North Band will perform beginning at 3:00  at the Meyerson Center.  Admission is free and all are encouraged to attend.

The entire North band program will be featured in a final concert on Friday, May 30.  The annual spring concert will be held at Coppell high school beginning at 7:00pm with the 6th grade Beginner Band followed by the three 7th-8th grade performing groups.
