“Total business sponsorship was over $110,000, which is up from 2007,” said Becky Neeley, Sponsorship Co-Chair. “This was possible because of McKinney’s business community’s strong commitment to fighting cancer and the hard work of the entire sponsorship team.”
Survivor participation was also high this year and for the first time, an Honorary Survivor Chair was named. Sophie Rumatz, 3, who has battled Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma, was recognized with this title. More than 850 luminarias lined the track in honor of cancer Survivors and those who have lost their battle with the disease.
“Thanks is not enough to say, but I am so proud to have been a part of the great committee that planned this event and the community that supports it year after year,” said Sharon Laird, 2008 RFL McKinney Co-Chair. “We can make a difference and I believe we did!”
“I want to thank everyone: participants, Survivors, corporate sponsors and especially the Relay For Life committee for putting on such a successful event,” added B.J. Ray, 2008 RFL McKinney Co-Chair. “Already, almost 30 teams have signed up for next year! That just goes to show McKinney’s commitment to the fight against cancer.”
